Avanti West Coast and Little Box of Books have formed a corporate partnership to donate hundreds of inclusive titles to schools.
Book Donations
The train operator has sent 1100 books to 11 schools across its network in a bid to diversify school bookshelves. And help improve children’s reading skills through the children’s book company’s business membership scheme.
Inclusive and Representative
The books are all chosen to be representative, so children see more of themselves in stories they read. This helps them better understand the world and their place in it.
Helen Diksa, Executive Director of Human Resources, at Avanti West Coast, said: “We are really proud to be partnering with Little Box of Books to help young children discover the delights of reading.
“It so important to pick up a book at an early age. Having diverse titles with representative as well as relatable characters will only help with learning and development.
“At Avanti West Coast one of our aims is to connect young people with opportunity which is why we got involved in this fabulous initiative.”
Reading changes lives
Founder and Director of Little Box of Books Lynsey Pollard said: “Reading is the most crucial skill for all children. Corporate Partnerships like this one help us at Little Box of Books to get more inclusive books into primary schools. We are so grateful for Avanti West Coast’s support.
“The books we feature reflect the society we live in. Everyone deserves to see themselves in a leading role.”
