#Changethestory

We did it! We raised more than £57,000 through our Change the Story crowdfunder to get inclusive books into primary schools and nurseries.

Together with author, presenter, musician and TV personality Rochelle Humes and KPMG we have raised enough money to get 10,000 inclusive children’s books into schools and nurseries all over the UK. And we’re in the process of doing it now.

We are choosing the books, choosing the recipient books, buying enough tape and boxes to package them all up and sending rewards and thank you notes to all our lovely donors and supporters. Thank you so much to every single person that donated, liked our campaign on social media and shared what we were doing. The response was incredible.

If you want to keep up with our progress, I’ll be reporting on the blog. Find our end of campaign press release here.

Why we do what we do…

In a report released last year it was revealed that only 4% of children’s books published in 2018 had a black, Asian or minority ethnic main character, meaning 96% of main characters were either white, animals or inanimate objects. This does not teach any of our children to accept, understand and expect diversity. We need library bookshelves to change.
